Odette by Silverwingfox Odette by Silverwingfox
this movie is a major guilty pleasure for me
it is just way to ridiculously cheesy and the characters are way too contrived

however, like ariel, i love odette's character design. unfortunately like ariel, i hate her development
its a shame cause it had so much promise when she said "but what else?"
....and then she's suddenly head over heels for a guy she hated for the some 21 or so odd years of her life

is consistency too hard to keep up? i mean obviously they were going for the Disney formula but everyone seems to overlook that it includes character development, or do they just fall asleep during the part of the movie where Belle is getting to know the Beast?

EDIT: resubmitted cause her face was seriously bugging me, i like it alot better now

Lovely picture! I think the movie was attempting to show an opposing couple, it's just that they didn't show the scenes of the couple as kids cooperating. Opposing couples tend to show their sparks when working together at jobs.

Oh yay, someone who likes Odette! I adore her and Derek, they were so funny as kids. I thought it was neat how they kind of started out hating each other and then grew to like each other. I believe they may have developed more as teenagers, but perhaps weren't sure how to show it. We really don't know, and the film was short, they didn't exactly have tons of things to work with. I like Odette, she's very different as far as damsels go, and although she isn't on a Mulan level, she does still try to escape and get out of a situation. Unfortunately, she's kind of jinxed and ends up in horrible situations. Derek is the one whose love I think develops in those films, though, because he always realizes how much Odette matters at the end, when she miraculously comes back alive. XD Great image, nonetheless. I adore your colors and style, it looks great! :)

Odette always loved Derek, she just wanted him to have more personal reasons for loving her back other than, "You're beautiful." Derek's vow of everlasting love with a sign to Odette that he had pondered her question of "What else?" and thought about why he really loved her, which is what he would tell her, and the whole world, with his vow. Back then, princesses were princesses, princes were princes, and characters were the way they were always thought of being. Even Jasmine, not being a perfect princess, is a cliched character to me, as is Belle and the other Disney princesses. Princesses are often portrayed as helpless and clueless (e.x. Snow White and Aurora), hard working and tolerant (Cinderella, Belle), or longing for something more than royalty (Jasmine). There is no character that isn't cliched or "different." There will always be comparisons, no matter how hard an artist works to make a character his/hers. I have a princess character who I've worked on and developed for over 5 years, and people still say that she reminds them of Princess Peach or Ariel, whereas I see no resemblance because I went through those gut-wrenching years of getting her to her final stage of development and looks.

Now there I have to disagree. I can get something like they harbored feelings for one another, but the show don't tell rule chimes in at this point. This was never shown, we are given scenes of them loving each other and then one that does a 180. Now I can understand if it was lust at first sight, because it certainly seems more so, but its not. When Odette said what else, I swear that was the screenwriter going "I'm drawing a blank". They did nothing to establish them as liking each other for different reasons, because they did not provide those reasons. What did we get from the montage, Derek is an archer, they both like pranks, and Odette likes dress up and card games.
With Belle we were shown that she read and was intelligent. She wanted something more out of her life. You say she's cliche, but I think mainly thats because most characters made after her have taken on her characteristics that its become stale. I mean Belle was so well rounded, she didn't put up with the Beast's crap, she sure as hell let him know it. She ran away from the castle and fought back against a pack of wolves when she was terrified out of her mind. She was always shown in taking the initiative, even when she was captured, the first thing we see is her fiddling with the door trying to get it open. But Odette, we have nothing. Were given a line as a first step but they never really did anything with it. I'd like to continue rambling, but I'd rather not, so I'll just end it here.

Oh god I loved that movie when I was a kid. I think it was all the side characters, they stole the show. As for the princess it seemed that someone gave her a love potion how else would have that happened?

yea, every bad writer loves love potion number 10(the contrived love potion)
